Classic Homemade Pickles This recipe is for making classic homemade pickles that are perfect for snacking or as a side for your favorite sandwiches. They are easy to make and incredibly flavorful. You can adjust the recipe to your liking by adding your favorite spices.
Wash the cucumbers and cut them into desired shapes (slices or spears). In a saucepan, combine the water, vinegar, salt, sugar, garlic (if using), black peppercorns, dill, and mustard seeds (if using). Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the salt and sugar dissolve. Place the cucumber slices or spears into a jar. Pour the brine mixture over the cucumbers to cover them completely. Let the pickles cool to room temperature before putting the lid on the jar. Place the jar in the refrigerator and allow the pickles to marinate for at least 24 hours. The longer the pickles marinate, the more flavorful they become. Enjoy your homemade pickles as a snack or alongside sandwiches. The pickles will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
