Asparagus Penne Garlic This recipe is a simple and elegant way to enjoy asparagus that is full of flavor and easy to make. The tender-crisp asparagus pairs perfectly with the garlicky pasta and savory Parmesan cheese.
Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. While the pasta is cooking, preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cut the asparagus into 2-inch pieces and add to the skillet with the olive oil. Season the asparagus with salt and pepper and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly browned. When the pasta is done, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water and drain the rest. Add the garlic to the skillet with the asparagus and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the asparagus and toss well to combine. If the pasta seems dry, add a splash or two of the reserved pasta cooking water to loosen it up.
