Tuna and Red Pepper Onigiri Onigiri is a classic Japanese dish that is traditionally made with rice and various fillings, shaped into a triangle. In this recipe, we are adding some Western flavors to the classic dish by using tuna, roasted red pepper, honey, and cilantro.
In a bowl, mix the drained tuna with the diced red pepper. Add the honey and chopped cilantro to the bowl and mix until well combined. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Using slightly damp hands, take a small handful of rice and form it into a ball. Make an indentation in the center of the rice ball and fill it with a spoonful of the tuna and red pepper mixture. Cover the filling with more rice and shape the onigiri into triangles or balls. Repeat until all the rice and filling is used up. Serve the onigiri immediately or wrap each one in plastic wrap to store for later. Enjoy!
